The Turnau Red Cross family celebrated a special anniversary:
On December 15, 1975, the Red Cross began operations in Turnau. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Red Cross branch, a ceremony was held in the Turnau municipal office's meeting room. Mayor Stefan Hofer, who has also been the Turnau Red Cross branch director since 2015, welcomed District Administrator Bernhard Preiner, Deputy Red Cross District Director Helmut Gass, Red Cross District Director Peter Prieschl, District Rescue Commander Haiko Schwaiger, and numerous current and former Red Cross employees.
The branch's secretary, Peter Ortner, presented the chronicle. Former branch directors, Medical Officer Dr. Franz Kroißenbrunner, Karl Schneider, and Johanna Decker, as well as the senior staff members Ewald Schadl, Ernst Leister, and Nicole Tesch, were honored with small gifts for their dedication. Sisters Johanna and Marlene Feichtenhofer provided musical accompaniment for the evening on the Styrian harmonica. Following the official part, those present signed the market town's Golden Book.
"Especially in today's selfish times, society needs role models who are committed to their fellow human beings. Our Red Cross volunteers are such role models, in the spirit of Henry Dunant's humanitarian ideal," said Mayor Hofer in his welcoming remarks.
