The market town of Turnau presents its offer for winter 2025/26
At a press conference held to coincide with the start of the winter season, the extensive winter offerings in the market town of Turnau were presented to the public. "Turnau has developed into a well-known and popular year-round destination and a popular local recreation area for the entire region. We're especially busy in winter. I would like to thank everyone who contributes to this. This once again demonstrates that community spirit and cooperation are Turnau's greatest strengths," said Mayor Stefan Hofer.
The managers of the three Turnau ski resorts – Erwin Rossmann (Schwabenbergarena), Hannes Payer (Eichfeldlift), and Hans Fellner (Lifts at the Styrian Seeberg) – are already looking forward to this year's season. The Schwabenbergarena recently received the Styrian slope quality seal and will open on December 6th. The other two Turnau ski resorts will open depending on snow conditions. Children and teenagers from Turnau will once again have the opportunity to enjoy the diverse offerings of the three ski areas at a significantly reduced rate throughout the season. This year, the municipalities of Thörl, St. Lorenzen, and St. Marein are also joining the program, offering a similar program for their children and teenagers aged 6 to 16.
The race program, which is carried out in excellent cooperation with the Turnau winter sports club, is equally intensive: In addition to numerous competitions, such as city FIS and FIS races or the Styrian school championships, there will also be European Cup races on the slope of the Schwabenberg Arena again at the end of January 2026.
“In addition, we are proud of our joint training group of around 200 children, which consists of athletes from the winter sports clubs Turnau, Au/Turnau, Aflenz, Etmißl, Kapfenberg and St. Marein-St. Lorenzen,” reports Matthias Puregger from WSV Turnau.
In addition, Turnau offers a comprehensive program of activities, from cross-country ski trails and an ice skating rink to numerous events and a diverse, high-quality culinary scene. "Last winter, we were able to increase our overnight stays by 9.3 percent. The average length of stay in Turnau is around three days. A big thank you goes to our accommodation providers," explains tourism officer Gitti Fladl.
