The market town of Turnau continues to focus on energy- and environmentally-friendly education for its elementary school children! This includes the implementation of the energy project "Kids meet Energy®" and the "Energy Smartie® " training program. In the 2024/25 school year, another 14 fourth-grade children can look forward to receiving the certified "Energy Smartie" award!
The training is made possible through the proven collaboration with Energie Steiermark ! The goal of the program is to raise awareness among Styrian youth about energy- and environmentally-conscious behavior as future shapers. The award-winning energy training project of the Baierl Energy Agency has consistently achieved this impressively!
During their training, the students intelligently explored the energy efficiency of household appliances, the economical use of electrical energy, and the avoidance of unnecessary standby consumption in electrical appliances. Savings in kilowatt hours and euros are converted into "ice cream units" based on the idea of Dipl.-Päd. Ing. Walter Baierl . In a total of six teaching units, numerous experiments made the sensible use of energy "tangible" in a playful way. The children clearly enjoyed the research! For example, the temperatures of various light bulbs were measured and the differences in energy efficiency were determined! The children had particular fun when a special LED lamp could be switched on by touching their earlobes! The energy consumption results were analyzed with excitement in the competition between the kettle and the electric stove with a saucepan, with the kettle emerging as the clear winner. When boiling one liter of water, it used only half as much!
The highly motivated collaboration of all those involved was particularly rewarded with the ceremonial presentation of the coveted certificates and LED lamps to the new energy smarties by Mayor LAbg. Mag.(FH) Stefan Hofer , municipal treasurer Stefan Höfler , director Dipl.-Päd. Tanja Schadl , class teacher Birgit Schadl, BEd and the speaker Matthias Wild !
